Digital Identity to a different level

As we already know and I have mentioned in previous posts about the dangers of Digital Identities and the problems it can inflict of peoples lives. Well I was reading the news and I had come across this horrible article and explains an attack that has happen on a vulnerable girl using the internet mainly social networks.

My main concern here and what caught my eye the most was this quote from the article…

“A man who raped a 12-year-old girl from Hampshire after posing online as a teenage girl, has been jailed for 14 years and four months.”[1]

“Cooper, of Windsor Drive, Hertford, fabricated a profile in a social network site in which he purported to be a 15-year-old girl called Chantelle.” [1]

This is a prime example of Digital Identity and having a young girl in this case being subjected to this growing problem is very worrying and indicates that the net is not a safe place to be. To make the matter worse was the age of the girl and the age of this online member on this fake profile.

“This incident highlights the ease with which online paedophiles can use social networking sites to communicate with children and parents should be mindful of who their children are communicating with and any arrangements that are made following contact.” [1]

This quoted from Det Insp Dave Storey, of Hampshire Constabulary and I have to say, this is a powerful quote and users and parents have to be more aware, its just simple as that!!!
